UConn women's basketball coach, Geno Auriemma, has stated that Title IX legislation is likely over and most of the NCAA laws have gone out of the window. The comment came as Auriemanma prepares for his team's Sweet 16 match against North Carolina. The legislation, passed in 1972, prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities, including athletics, for institutions receiving federal funding. However, since 2021, athletes have been able to directly pay their athletes. There are concerns that athletic departments are diverting most of that money to revenue-rich sports like football and men's basketball at the expense of women's and Olympic sports. Auriamma also expressed his dislike for women's football's two-site regionals, which will be in place for at least five more seasons, and suggested that women's shouldn't have to move to neutral sites for the first two rounds of the tournament.
