President Donald Trump has proposed a record-breaking $1.5 trillion defense budget, which would mark the largest increase in Department of Defense funding ever. The proposed military budget for fiscal year 2027 would represent a 42% increase year over year, one of the largest increases in American history. This follows comments from the president suggesting that military readiness should be the primary budgetary priority rather than the wellbeing of the American people. The budget also includes projects like the Trump class battleship, a $20 billion project that would revive a World War II era project with a Trumpian spin. However, critics argue that the war has already cost the country between $630 billion and $1 trillion. The $1,5 trillion budget also does not include an expected supplemental funding package for the Iran war.
