Google has unveiled Maps Imagery Grounding, a new AI-powered tool that allows filmmakers and creative agencies to generate images and animated scenes based on real-world locations using Google Street View data. This could potentially reduce the time and cost of early-stage location scouting and storyboarding. The feature is available in private preview in the US. Users can also animate these scenes using Google's AI video model Veo. This announcement comes as film studios aim to reduce costs and simplify pre-production. Google also announced that it is launching AI tools for analyzing aerial and satellite imagery, and new Earth AI models designed to identify roads, bridges, and power lines. Despite concessions from the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild over the use of AI in film and television production, tensions in Hollywood have continued to simmer.
