The NFL owners have approved five rule changes for the 2026 season, including allowing the NFL Officiating Department to correct "clear and obvious" misses by on-field officials during a work stoppage. This follows a period of poor officiating, which led to numerous controversies during the last time the league used replacement officials. The owners also approved a proposal allowing league personnel to consult with on field officials when considering disqualifications for both flagrant football acts and non-football acts without being called onto the field. Only losing teams will be allowed to attempt onside kicks in 2025, but this could potentially lead to penalties for teams attempting to evade the league's revamped kickoff setup.
