‘Yes, Minister’ Creator on Bringing Franchise to a Close With ‘I’m Sorry, Prime Minister’ and Comedy in the Trump Era: It’s ‘Truly Beyond Satire’

Jonathan Lynn, the co-creator of the BAFTA-winning political comedy series “Yes, Minister” and "Yes, Prime Minister,” has stated that political satire in the current American moment is truly beyond satire. The final chapter of ‘I’m Sorry, Prime Prime Minister’, which has been playing to sold-out audiences at London’s Apollo Theatre since its opening, is set to close on May 9. The West End production stars Griff Rhys Jones and Clive Francis. The franchise began in 1976 when Lynn's writing partner Antony Jay proposed creating a comedy series about the British civil service. The show won multiple BAFTAs and was Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's favorite television program.
