Ohio Republican Sen. Jon Husted testified in the corruption trial of former FirstEnergy executives, Chuck Jones and Michael Dowling, who face over two dozen felony charges related to bribery. Husted, who was Ohio’s lieutenant governor when House Bill 6 was passed and actively promoted the legislation, testified he did not know about bribes. The trial relates to when FirstEnergy bribed political leaders to secure H.B. 6 and implement a $61 million plan to bail out two FirstEnergy nuclear power plants. Despite not being accused of wrongdoing in the FirstEnergy case, Husted remains committed to reviving nuclear power. He also expressed regret over trusting people and processes he should not have during the scandal.
