The Atlanta Braves defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-2 in the opening three-series between division-leading clubs. Martin Perez pitched five scoreless innings and Ozzie Albies homered a two-run homer in the eighth. This was Perez's first win over the Tigers since Aug. 25, 2019. The Braves' nine-hit attack was largely attributed to Mike Yastrzemski, who went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Detroit's starter Casey Mize had to leave the game due to groin injury.
