The President Trump's war with Iran is likely to increase energy prices, leading to a surge in oil prices and gas prices, which are expected to increase further. The national average price of unleaded gas hit $3.11 a gallon on Tuesday, marking the biggest single-day spike since March 4, 2022. This increase is expected to further exacerbate inflation. Travel and consumer goods, such as plastics, are likely to also increase due to the increased oil prices. Travel is also likely to become more expensive due to standard travel policies excluding coverage for war and military-related disruptions, which may not be reimbursed for suspended trips. Some airlines have hedged against surges in fuel prices, purchasing fuel at pre-set prices months or years in advance. The conflict could disrupt the global phosphate market if Iran continues to rely heavily on Iran's oil and other countries' dependence on the Middle East.
