Fentanyl, a super-potent synthetic opioid, may be found in party pills purchased on the illicit market, which are often laced with the drug equivalent to Adderall and oxycodone. These pills are indistinguishable from the legitimate prescription drugs they're pretending to be, but with a high risk of overdosing. As little as half a milligram of fentanyl hidden in a drug could lead to an OD, according to DanceSafe, a non-profit drug-checking resource at party scenes around the country. The potential for further incidents is significant, with in 2023, the Drug Enforcement Administration found 74.5 million fentapills in the U.S. Seventy percent of them contained a deadly dose of fentanyl. The most common method of obtaining these pills is to contact a dealer via social media, which is also among the most dangerous. Be wary of online pharmacies, even if they appear legitimate and safe, as many as 90 percent of these are illegal. The FDA's SafePSafeRx site and the End OverdoseRx are used to vet any potential supply. The best way to identify your supply with fentanyl test strips is visually discernable and difficult to identify any suspicious pills.
