Minneapolis’ Native American Community Clinic Promotes Health Through Access to Coverage and Essential Support

The Native American Community Clinic (NACC) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, promotes health through access to healthcare and insurance coverage for Native American communities. Cally Proctor, a certified MNsure navigator with NACC, serves as part of the patient advocacy team and serves as a navigator to help individuals and families navigate healthcare coverage and care navigation services. NACC’s patient advocacy model promotes health and wellness with their families and provides comprehensive care including support with Medical Assistance, Medicare, housing, Social Security, transportation, shelter, and food resources, personal care assistance services, caregiver supports and general assistance. The clinic is supported by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation in their efforts to increase access to care and coverage across Minnesota. The Native American uninsurance rate in NACC's geographic area is between 10 and 11% and the statewide unInsurance rate is 3.8%. NACC also provides access to sacred medicines and traditional healing through Elders-in-Residence trained in Dakota and Ojibwe healing and mind-body medicine.
