Apple has patched a notification bug that allowed the FBI to access messages from people being investigated by the FBI, despite the fact that some notification data was being retained from the iPhone's notification database. The latest iOS update addressed this issue directly, addressing a logging issue with improved data redaction. The issue was discovered through a report from 404 Media and Apple quickly patched the issue once it was made public. The FBI obtained the data via a forensic tool, GrayKey or Cellebrite, which uses unpatched vulnerabilities that Apple may not know about. Despite this, users no longer need to take action as this issue has been resolved.
