UK to urge full reopening of Strait of Hormuz

The UK Foreign Secretary, Michael Cooper, has called for the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, following ships being warned by the Iranian navy that they may be subject to attack if they do not receive permission. This comes as ministers are keen to utilise their diplomatic clout to reopen the vital shipping lane. Cooper will also call for toll-free shipping in the Strait to be monitored and for the International Maritime Organization's efforts to assist ships and seafarers trapped in the waterway. The US and Israel are responsible for the decision on reopening the Strait, which is seen as a crucial route for the global economy.
