A pharmacy bill in the Oklahoma Legislature could increase prescription drug costs by more than $10 per prescription, according to Oklahoma Families for Affordable Healthcare. The group warns that the bill, House Bill 3538 and Senate Bill 2074, include a mandatory dispensing fee of over $10 on every prescription filled in the state. The organization argues that this policy would increase costs for patients, employers, and taxpayers. The added cost could be significant for Oklahomans managing chronic conditions and could increase the cost of providing pharmacy benefit services for an Oklahoman with six prescriptions a month. The bill was originally introduced to support independent pharmacies and included provisions that would have disrupted access to mail-order medications, including those of veterans. The nonprofit is urging lawmakers to prioritise policies that protect patients from higher health care costs.
