The Padres beat the White Sox 4-3 in their spring game at Camelback Ranch. Nick Castellanos, Miguel Andujar, who were acquired to play as part of a platoon at first base and designated hitter, performed well against left-handed pitchers. Castellsanos and Andujujar both scored their first home runs of the spring. Nick Pivetta, the Padres' presumptive opening-day starter, allowed four singles in the first inning but held the White White Sox to one run. Jose Miranda doubled in his first at-bat, dropping his spring average to 8-for-20. Carlos Rodriguez, who has spent the past two seasons between Double-A and Triple-A, walked twice and has reached base eight times in 17 plate appearances this spring. The Padres' defense is improving, ranking second in the league.
