The White House is moving towards welcoming Anthropic back into the government fold after months of animosity and legal battles with the Pentagon. This comes as the company's most advanced models are too powerful to ignore. The tension is shaping AI policy, with Washington stepping in to guide who gets access to the most advanced systems and how they're deployed. The disagreement started when talks broke down over how the Pentagon could use Anthropic's AI in classified settings, leading to public spats, lawsuits, new deals with other frontier AI companies, and the White House labeling Anthropic as a supply chain risk. Despite this, the government began testing Anthropic’s most advanced cyber model, with agencies testing it along with other advanced cyber models. The White House may also consider an executive order to remove Anthropic from government systems entirely, but this time, the Pentagon has remained silent.
