A 16-year-old Bronx teenager who tried to save his mom from being stabbed to death by her longtime boyfriend, Juan Rivas, was badly wounded himself in the attack. The victim's family praised the brave boy, who was trying to de-escalate the situation but was stabbed in the neck, shoulder, and cheek by Rivas. The wound to his neck left him temporarily unable to speak. Rivas then stabbed Yesenia Hall repeatedly, killing her. Both Hall and her son were rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where Hall died. Prosecutors have described multiple domestic incidents between Rivas and Hall, five of which involved physical violence.
