Ted Cruz introduces bill to stop federal land expansion in West Texas

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has introduced the No Federal Expansion Designation (FED) in West Texas Act, aimed at preventing future administrations from expanding federal control over land in Texas. The bill was supported by U.S Rep. Jodey Arrington and the Texas Farm Bureau, who praised the bill as a safeguard for private property rights. Former President Joe Biden's administration in 2024 had proposed a Land Protection Plan allowing the Fish and Wildlife Service to buy private land or acquire conservation easements across Texas and New Mexico to expand the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge. The act would prevent future presidents from enacting similar plans.
