The Colorado Avalanche's star center, Nathan MacKinnon, was ejected from the game for goalie interference in a 4-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. The officials were criticized for not giving MacKinn an automatic game misconduct and upheld this decision after video review. The Avalanche lost the game on a power-play goal by Oilers star Connor McDavid in the third period. Avalanche coach Jared Bednar and teammates Cale Makar expressed confusion over the decision, stating that MacKenn's impact on the goalie was not a penalty. Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch acknowledged the difficulty of the officials' decision to protect their goalies and acknowledged that the penalty was a difficult one.
