Five Cuyahoga County school districts are asking for money on May 5, amid state funding increases and a proposed ballot measure could eliminate property taxes. Lakewood and Solon are asking to raise property tax increases to help with ongoing expenses to educate children. Strongsville is also seeking a property tax increase to repay bonds for school construction and upgrades. Independence is asking for a combined bond issuance and earned-income property tax, which together would pay for new building construction. Parma is also asking for an income tax to fund ongoing school operations. All five districts receiving less funding from the state than the average Ohio district. The state's school funding formula allows wealthier districts to raise a larger share of funds from residents.
