President Donald Trump has nominated radiologist Nicole Saphier for the position of Surgeon General, following the withdrawal of Casey Means for the role. Sphier, who earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Ross University School of Medicine and served as a physician at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a professor at the University of Cornell’s medical school, is known for her advocacy of early cancer detection and prevention. She also supported the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) movement, which was adopted by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and advocated for stricter measures against the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also voiced her support for pro-life positions and policies, citing her own experience as a child at 17 and her decision to carry her son.
