Jones was reportedly trying to break up a fight outside the bar after witnessing a man assault a woman. Daniel Di Vonne Parsons, 25, allegedly shot Jones in the parking lot after Jones calmed down the situation. Jones died from his injuries at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Jones' friends and family have described him as a "big brother figure," "gentle giant," and "hero." The Indoor Football League praised Jones' talent, drive, and character.
