Nigerian authorities have charged six military officers, including a retired major-general and a serving police inspector, over an alleged coup plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu. The suspects were part of a group of 16 military officers arrested in 2025 over alleged indiscipline and breaches of service regulations. The government initially denied the existence of the alleged coup, before announcing in January that several officers would be tried for planning to overthrow the government. The charges were filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja and were also accused of conspiring to wage war against the state.
