European leaders are standing against military involvement in the Middle East, with President Trump criticising NATO allies for their reluctance to support the U.S. operation in Iran. The longstanding NATO alliance has been strained due to a deepening rift over the war with Iran, with the vital Strait of Hormuz at the center of Trump's pressure campaign. While some NATO countries, including the United Kingdom, have expressed readiness to contribute to reopening the strait, they have resisted calls for a broader role in the war. The UK has been singled out by Trump for its approach to the conflict, which includes the use of military bases on the Chagos Islands for “defensive” strikes as part of the military operation. The tensions could overshadow a visit from King Charles III and Queen Camilla to commemorate America's 250th birthday.
