Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) is leading the fight over the use of AI in mass surveillance and weapons, planning to introduce legislation to codify "vital" protections around the use. This comes amid a dispute between the Pentagon and Anthropic over the company's AI models. Schiff's office has been in touch with industry leaders and experts to develop the legislation, and is considering all possible legislative vehicles to include it in the upcoming National Defense Authorization Act. The Pentagon has given senior leadership and military commanders 180 days to remove all of Anthropic's AI products from their systems, and has filed a request for an emergency stay on the Pentagon’s designation of its products as a supply chain risk. Energy Secretary Chris Wright plans to review his posts on social platform X after deleting a post about a military escort that the White House disputed. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have entered into a memorandum of understanding in an effort to avoid regulatory disputes.
