Alaska House minority Republicans failed to censure House Majority Whip Zack Fields, D-Anchorage, for holding a "ICE OUT" sign during Congressman Nick Begich's annual address to the Legislature. The motion was largely tabled along caucus lines. The House Minority Leader DeLena Johnson, R-Palmer, called Fields' actions "a lack of professional maturity and a blatant disregard for the rules of this body". Fields defended his actions, stating they were comparable to those of ICE's actions across the country. The censure motion was ultimately dismissed by a 21-to-19 vote. If the censure had passed, it would have carried no formal punishment, only a statement of reprimand placed on the record.
