A new type of battery that runs on water and tofu brine has been developed by researchers, aiming to eliminate potential environmental hazards. The battery lasts 120,000 charge cycles in the lab, which is 40 times higher than current lithium-ion batteries. The researchers used neutral salts of magnesium and calcium to move electric charge between the electrodes. They also replaced the metal-based negative electrode with organic polymers. The energy capacity for the battery is 112.8 per cent.
