Streator man gets 20 years for predatory criminal sexual assault

Bernard W. Fairman III, a 38-year-old man from Streator, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl. Despite Fairman's pleas for leniency, La Salle County Circuit Judge Michelle A. Vescogni rejected his pleas. The sentence is subject to the state Truth in Sentencing Act, which requires certain felons to serve at least 85% of their prison sentences. With 470 days' credit for time served, Fairman could be paroled in just over 15 years.
