The Cologne Cathedral, the most-visited cathedral in Europe, is set to implement an entry fee due to rising maintenance costs. The fee will be implemented in the second half of this year, likely between €12-15 and may increase to £10-13. The building, which took over 600 years to build and acquired Unesco World Heritage status in 1996, has been free to enter. However, inflation, personnel costs, and a depletion of funding reserves have prompted the decision to implement the fee. The admission fee is expected to calm daily operations and make the cathedral more accessible as a house of worship.
