South Africa has identified two cases of the Andes strain of hantavirus, which spreads human-to-human, linked to a cruise ship that was hit by an outbreak. The ship, the MV Hondius, was preparing to depart from Cape Verde towards Europe after receiving permission from the Spanish government for docking. The other strains of the virus are usually transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their feces.
