Social media platform X has backtracked on its announcement of new rules for creator monetization, which had focused on payouts based on engagement from a creator's local audience. The changes were met with criticism from users worldwide who claimed they posted about topics in different languages in an effort to attract more readership. X Head of Product Nikita Bier argued that the platform should disincentivize gaming the algorithm by posting about the U.S. or Japan to gain attention to these larger audiences. However, the changes were later rescinded by CEO Elon Musk, who stated that the company would "pause moving forward with further consideration"
