Trader Joe's has filed plans to transform the abandoned Fox Venice Theater in Los Angeles into a 12,500-square-foot grocery store. The move has sparked excitement and unease in the neighborhood, with some anticipating easier access to cookie butter and $3 wine. The store would remain open an hour later than the company's other stores and be located near a large Whole Foods location. While not officially designated as a historic asset, any redevelopment could face scrutiny over preserving the building's Art Deco facade and signature signage. If approved, the store would join a growing list of TJ's expansion across the Westside, including a planned Santa Monica location.
