A study by the American College of Cardiology has found that deaths from high blood pressure have quadrupled among young US women. The study looked at data from women who died between the ages of 25 and 44 years from hypertensive heart disease. The research also found differences in ethnicity and location, with non-Hispanic Black women having the highest number of deaths related to high bloodpressure at 8.6 per 100,000. The researchers believe their findings reflect an underestimation of cardiovascular risk and missed opportunities for intervention for another vulnerable group. The recommended lifestyle changes include a heart-healthy diet, regular exercise, and quitting smoking.
