Spencer Laird, a young dad, was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 26 and underwent surgery to remove 16 inches of his colon. After two years of treatment, he believed he was in the clear. However, a follow-up appointment revealed that his cancer had returned and spread to his lungs. His doctor estimated he had about two years to live. He applied for clinical trials, including a study on immunotherapy, which is typically only used if a patient doesn't respond to chemotherapy, which Spencer hadn't tried. He was part of a clinical trial in 2025 and received an immunotherapy infusion every few weeks. Despite feeling hopeless, Spencer no longer has a terminal diagnosis.
