Former Cincinnati City Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld has won a major victory at the U.S. Supreme Court in his bid to have the criminal case against him dismissed after President Donald Trump pardoned him. The court's decision allows for the dismissal of the corruption-related charges against him. Despite serving less than five months in prison, a federal appeals court upheld his conviction. The U.K. Department of Justice had asked the Supreme Court to vacate his convictions and dismiss his indctment with prejudice to "give full effect to the President's pardon". Sittenfield was indicted in 2000 and accused of trading favorable votes for campaign contributions. His trial attorneys argued that his actions were part of a broader strategy to extract financial contributions from individuals who regularly conducted city business.
