Scientists have developed a revolutionary new audiovisual simulation of "virtual universes" that allows scientists to'see and hear' galaxies evolving from the dawn of time. The COLIBRE virtual universes use the standard model of cosmology to model the dynamics of cold galactic dust and gas from the first billion years after the Big Bang to the present day. The simulation uses more computing power than previously available to other cosmic simulations, and is so convincing that even some astronomers are taking double-takes. It runs on the COSMA8 supercomputer at Durham University and overcame a challenge previously found to be insurmountable: the modeling of cold gas. However, the simulation still requires the JWST to identify "little red dots" seen during periods of cosmic time.
