John Cantrell, a 66-year-old grandfather, was diagnosed with aortic stenosis in 2024 after fainting on a bike ride. Despite initially dismissing the diagnosis, Cantrell continued cycling and playing pickleball to stay fit after retiring. He fainted and crashed the next day, leading to broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, and a punctured lung. Dr. Mark Russo, professor and chief of cardiac surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, warned that patients should take their diagnosis seriously and should be careful. Following cardiac rehabilitation and cardiac rehabilitation, he was able to get back to riding his bike and running on a treadmill.
