The 2025-26 NHL season is still to play, but it is not too soon to start looking ahead to the offseason. These are six teams that are likely not going to the playoffs this season or have put themselves in a position where their postseason trip could be short. The Maple Leafs have significant questions to answer, both on the ice and off of it. The team's general manager, Brad Treliving, has been on the losing track of major roster moves over the past two years, which have made the team worse. The Canucks have been committing to a rebuild, but need to identify who should be building the roster and coaching it. They also need to address the issue of their defensive issues and their lack of a response to Auston Matthews being knocked out for the season due to a dirty hit. The New York Rangers are the worst team in the 2025-20 season, with only four defensemen for half of the game.
