Biblioracle: The LitRPG series ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ has sold millions of copies. But it’s not for me.

The LitRPG series, the series ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ by author Matt Dinniman, has sold millions of copies and is set to be released soon, with seven volumes and an eighth due to come out in the works. However, Biblioracle's general books columnist, John Warner, found that the series was not engaging with him. The series, named after the first installment, “Dungeon crawler Carl,” was described as role-playing game literature. Despite a review by Slate’s chief book critic, Laura Miller, who praised the book's innovative and clever approach, he found it lacking the immersion and depth of character. Despite this, Warner concluded that while he felt he was missing out on something that millions of people are enjoying.
