A bill, House Bill 402, aims to make selling products easier for cottage food producers in Virginia. The bill would allow them to place their home addresses on the labels of their food and ship their goods out within the state. Currently, these producers can only sell their products face-to-face at a farmers’ market or at a temporary event, but can't accept direct orders and ship them out. The legislation aims to allow these producers to ship their products through third party within the Commonwealth, not just at farmer’s markets. It also includes a work group to review the structural, equipment and facility standards for private homes producing products that do not meet the cottage food law exemptions.
