Dr. Edith Eger, holocaust survivor and local acclaimed psychologist, dies at 98

Dr. Edith Eva Eger, a renowned psychologist known for her work on the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, has died at the age of 98. Eger was born in 1927 in Hungary and was sent from her home in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp with her family. She and her sister survived, but were personally tortured by Dr. Josef Mengele, the German SS officer known for his brutal experiments on his victims. Edid moved to the U.S. in 1949 and later married to Bela Eger and had three children with her. She became a nationally renowned expert in PTSD and resiliency training and served as a consultant to the US Navy and Army to help soldiers with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.
