The sixth anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, six years after his death, a community gathered in George Floyd Square in Minneapolis to remember him and commemorate his death. The site of Floyd's killing by a Minneapolis police officer sparked a dayslong Rise and Remember Festival, which included speakers, art, music, vendors and family activities centered on racial justice. The event was held at the same time as controversial plans are moving forward to alter the intersection where Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin. Critics of the reconstruction plan have criticized it, arguing that a city survey showed more support for a competing proposal to build a memorial garden and greenhouse.
