A study led by epidemiologist Fang-Hua Liu and colleagues from Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University has found that one blood type, blood type B, appears to have a slightly higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than non-B blood types. The study compared 51 systematic reviews with meta-analyses of associations between ABO and Rhesus blood groups with various health outcomes. The researchers re-calculated each association and found only one convincing evidence for an association between blood group B and Type 2 diabetes. This suggests that there is a real, tangible association between the types of blood type and type of disease, which can influence how people think about their own risk. The research was published in BMC Medicine.
