Sterling edges up versus dollar before BoE policy meeting

Sterling has risen against the U.S. dollar as investors wait for a number of central bank meetings, including the Bank of England. The greenback surged during the Middle East conflict as investors sought safe-haven assets. The UK's lower exposure to energy shocks has also contributed to sterling's recent resilience. The Bank's Monetary Policy Committee members are expected to respond to the prospect of sharply higher energy prices. The euro remained unchanged at 86.35 pence after hitting its lowest point since February.
