Putting property taxes on the ballot, effort underway at Capitol

A proposal is being pushed at the Minnesota Capitol to allow voters to decide if their property taxes should they increase. Senator Mike Kreun (R-Blaine) has proposed that local governments should make their case for any property tax increase higher than inflation and more for growing cities and counties. This proposal is similar to what already occurs with school districts. Several bills are being proposed, including one co-authored by DFL Blaine representative Matt Norris that would create a task force to investigate the issue and how the state can support local governments.
