The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office is investigating a video and audio system inside Lawrence City Hall after a recording leaked showing an argument between William Castro, Mayor Brian DePena's former chief of staff, and Francisco Urena, the Lawrence airport director. The New England Police Benevolent Association has demanded an independent investigation into the incident, stating that the city's independent review through a private firm is inadequate given the gravity of the allegations. The union's concerns stem from a potential intentional interception of oral communications without consent, a criminal offense under state law.
