Retail crime task force recovers over $3.3M worth of stolen items in 2026, Gov. Newsom says

The California Highway Patrol led the Organized Retail Crime Task Force, which has recovered over $3.3 million in stolen items in two months, led to 35 arrests and the recovery of 33,354 stolen items. The task force has also conducted 75 investigations and recovered over 33,000 stolen items since its launch in 2019. The arrests were made following a tip about a counterfeit merchandise operation and a search warrant at a warehouse in El Monte. Since its launch, the force has recovered more than $73 million worth of stolen goods. Meanwhile, violent crime in California has decreased in all major cities, with the largest drops being in Oakland and San Francisco.
