Plane carrying 170+ passengers, FedEx jet avert near-collision at airport

A passenger jet and a cargo plane nearly collided during a landing attempt at Newark Liberty International Airport. The incident occurred around 8:17 p.m. on March 17, when an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 and a FedEx 777 were approaching intersecting runways. Air traffic control instructed the passenger jet to perform a go-around, leading to an estimated 300 to 325 feet of impact. The FedEx plane landed safely and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
