Pro-redistricting groups have been spending millions on Republican candidates backed by President Donald Trump. The groups are aiming to defeat seven Republican senators who refused to abide Trump's demands for a redrawing of the state's U.S. House maps last year. The Club for Growth, president David McIntosh, has stated that this is not revenge but a clear effort to send a message to Republican leaders that he expects them to be team players. This is seen as a rare break from Trump's influence in Republican politics, leading to unprecedented White House involvement in state legislative races ahead of the May 5 primary.
