Bullard's Sam Makely, a 16-year-old California high school student, was left with a traumatic brain injury and dissociative amnesia after a car accident that left him without a name or a memory. He relearned to walk and play baseball in a hospital after learning to do so, using position drills in the hospital hallways to learn how to walk. Despite the trauma, Makely continued to play in his final year of high school ball. Eight months after the accident, he was in the lineup for the second game of the season.
