Ross Greenberg and his wife, Danielle Amerian, have been rebuilding their Pacific Palisades home after the devastating fires that destroyed their home in the past destroyed nearly 7,000 homes in L.A. The couple's work involved a year-long process involving Lannen Construction and architect Kevin Oreck, who emphasized the importance of "home hardening" as a strategy to retrofit or build a home using fire-resistant materials and construction techniques to protect properties from embers, heat or direct flames. The measures they took include no vents or eves, permanent dehumidifiers in the attic, a Class A clay tile roof, an indoor sprinkler system, drought-resistant landscaping, noncombustible exterior gates, solar and battery features, electric appliances, double-paned, tempered glass windows, underground power lines and more. Greenberg credits Lannen construction’s Lee Horvitz and Oreck for guiding them through the process.
